After
shaking up his top advisers, Kerry apparently intends
to focus on the economy. Here again, Kerry faces trouble.
He criticizes the Bush administration for "inheriting
a surplus and turning it into a deficit." But the
National Taxpayers' Union added up Kerry's spending proposals:
more than $2.26 trillion over a 10-year period of time.
To "pay for" the spending, Kerry intends to
repeal Bush's "tax cuts for the rich."
…
The Democrats offer a candidate fuzzy on the war in Iraq,
and who infuriated over two-and-a-half-million Vietnam
vets by accusing them of engaging in widespread atrocities.
…
The passion at the DNC registered high on the anti-Bush
quotient and low on pro-Kerry sentiment. Republicans,
on the other hand, salute President Bush as a principled,
unpretentious, likable man with an intense love for his
wife and family. First lady Laura Bush stands as the epitome
of class, dignity and grace.

This is what Poli calls a “long-weekend special.” It was Thursday
night, Elder probably had Friday off, and he just tossed out a
string of half-truths. But these are dangerous half-truths, because
they're couched in a way that's easy for the echo chamber to pick
up on. “Maybe Kerry shouldn't have insulted all those vets…” by
repeating what they had told him about what they saw in Vietnam?

| Kerry
is hypocritical for attacking Bush’s deficits because his
own proposals would be worse for the deficit. |
Of
course Bush is running the largest deficits ever and his proposals
would recklessly increase these record level deficits over the next
10 years. His plans cost more than Kerry’s and don’t involve rolling
back the tax cuts to the top income groups. This is the first time
in U.S. history that a president has cut upper bracket taxes while
waging a war. |

Kerry
“infuriated over 2.5M Vietnam vets by accusing them of engaging
in widespread atrocities.”
|
Kerry
never did any such thing. In his testimony before the Senate, he
related the accounts of other Vietnam veterans, using their own
words. He never made any accusations himself. |
 |
| Democrats
don’t even like their own candidate, Republicans are more
pro-Bush than anti-Kerry, and Laura Bush? Classy lady. |
Well,
let’s see. Democrats.org features links to help elect Sen. Kerry.
GOP.com features more pictures of Kerry than of the President. Who
likes their candidate more? |

This is what Poli calls a “long-weekend special.” It
was Thursday night, Elder probably had Friday off, and he just tossed
out a string of half-truths. But these are dangerous half-truths,
because they’re couched in a way that’s easy for the
echo chamber to pick up on. “Maybe Kerry shouldn’t have
insulted all those vets…” by repeating what they had
told him about what they saw in Vietnam? “The Democrats are
the party of hate…” because their website features positive
things about their candidate while the Republicans just attack Kerry?
“Laura Bush is beyond criticism…” because she
never gets called on her own slip-ups and white lies? It’s
lazy pieces like Elder’s that have too often been effective
– at least until Poli and her vigilant staff of lie busters
arrived on the scene. |
