Christian Conservatives Must Not Compromise
L.A. Times
November 5, 2004
Christians, in politics as in evangelism, are not against people or the world. But we are against false ideas that hold good people captive. On Tuesday, this nation rejected liberalism, primarily because liberalism has been taken captive by the left. Since 1968, the left has taken millions captive, and we must help those Democrats who truly want to be free to actually break free of this evil ideology.

MYTHS AND ASSUMPTIONS: REALITY
"The left hates the ballot box and loves its courtrooms, which is why it hopes to continue to advance its agenda through the courts." Remember 2000? Al Gore got the most votes in Florida, but the right got the court to shut the ballot down. And in 2004, Republicans revived Jim Crow-era challengers and other means of suppressing the vote. We on left understand the fundamental principle of democracy, majority rule, and minority rights.
"On Tuesday, this nation rejected liberalism, primarily because liberalism has been taken captive by the left." He's got a point there. You gotta hate that left-wing brand of liberalism.
"As we learned Tuesday, it is clear the left holds the majority of Americans, the majority of us, in contempt." It seems to be the chief strategy of rabid right-wingers to pretend that they are under vicious attack when in fact they are doing the attacking.
"We are one nation under a God they [Kerry and Edwards] reject. We remain indivisible despite their attempts to divide Americans through their relentless warfare against class, ethnic and religious unity." Kerry and Edwards affirmed their faith many times in the campaign, they certainly don't reject God. What American politician worth his salt has ever done that? We think it's obvious that the real divisions in this country stem from the evangelical right wing jihad, which Pastore so well exemplifies.
"In 1946, there were those on the left who believed the Germans and the Japanese were incapable of democracy and liberty. Today, many doubt democracy can be birthed in Iraq or Afghanistan." How odd, an unsubstantiated attack.  Care to name any of "those on the left" that opposed reconstruction of Germany and Japan? Does Frank remember those on the right that supported Hitler? I wonder if he finished high school history before joining the majors. Reconstruction of Germany and Japan was undertaken by the Democratic Truman administration; in fact, any delay of the Marshall Plan was due to resistance from Republicans in Congress. Our doubts about Iraq have less to do with the Iraqis and more to do with the right's continual blunders and lack of commitment to the sincere development of democracy.
Christian Right radio host and former Major-Leaguer Frank Pastore tells us that 56 million people voted for evil on Tuesday.  There is nothing more refreshing after a bitterly fought election than the winners calling the losers "evil."

Of course, this is from the LA Times--we're pretty sure they're running this just to scare us. It worked. We're scared.
