O'Reilly Factor

January 5, 2005

“The Factor” wants you to have all the facts before you make up your mind on an issue. That's been our philosophy from the beginning. We hide nothing.

But others in the media do. For example, The New York Times desperately wants to kill President Bush's private Social Security plan, saying it's dangerous.

... The reason the left doesn't want you to know the whole truth is an agenda. The New York Times and its cousins want higher taxes and bigger government. The liberal media believes only a huge progressive federal presence can make us a humane nation.

"Fair and balanced" O’Reilly goes to astounding lengths to spin his "no spin zone" as objective. He bends over backwards so far his contortions look less like a frank discussion of facts and more like shadow-boxing with the mysterious left-wing media “agenda.”

Bill O’Reilly always gives his viewers all the facts.

“The Factor” wants you to have all the facts before you make up your mind on an issue. That's been our philosophy from the beginning. We hide nothing.”

O’Reilly likes facts. HIS facts. He gives you ALL the facts consistent with HIS argument. Fair and balanced, don’t you think?
Social Security privatization won’t do any harm to the system.

“What the "Times" did not say in its long editorial this week is that the program would be totally voluntary. Somehow the "Times" left that out of the equation.”

American’s may get to choose how much money will go into their private savings accounts, but those who choose the safe traditional system over the risky accounts will find their benefits shrinking. Without as much money coming in, Social Security won’t be able to pay out what it needs to. According to government actuaries, Social Security will be solvent until 2042. There is no crisis, and far smaller far more affordable proposals for reform will keep the program in good stead for quite a bit longer.

The progressive agenda can only lead to raze and ruin for America.

“And the left wants even higher taxes which would certainly choke the economy, but that's OK. The progressive goal of income redistribution — that is taking money away from affluent Americans and giving it to those who don't have much — requires steep tax rates. That is what "The New York Times" and its acolytes are after, but they will never tell you that.”

Clinton raised taxes and presided over a period of tremendous prosperity. Bush’s irresponsible tax cuts have resulted in a sluggish economy and a mountain of debt our kids will have to pay off. A sane and just tax policy will enable our government to invest in the future prosperity of our country and in the short term provide things like body armor for U.S. troops, health care benefits for all Americans, and Pell grants to keep America on the cutting edge of education and intellectual exploration.

Weak far-leftists are responsible for the torture controversy.

“The left despises Gonzales because he doesn't want Geneva Convention protections given to accused terrorists captured abroad . . . Again, this is violently — pardon the pun — opposed by the left which generally wants due process in civilian courts for terrorists captured abroad and no coercive interrogation techniques whatsoever. Thus, Gonzales is being labeled an enabler of torture and worse. He's being branded a villain by the far left.”

Alberto Gonzalez’s legal opinions as White House counsel exhibited a flagrant disregard for the rule of law. Without proper legal oversight, there is no conceivable limit on U.S. counter-intelligence operations, and we are on a slippery-slope to a police state. There is also widespread consensus that torture is not an effective method of interrogation. People such as Israel’s chief interrogator have warned of the dangers of violent coercive methods. We will lose the “War on Terror” if in the course of fighting terrorists we compromise the very values we are trying to protect.

"Fair and balanced" O’Reilly goes to astounding lengths to spin his "no spin zone" as objective. He bends over backwards so far his contortions look less like a frank discussion of facts and more like shadow-boxing with the mysterious left-wing media “agenda.”

Without the U.S.S.R as chief bogeyman, the right has been forced to search for other insidious orchestraters of left-wing agitation like… the New York Times (gasp)! The Times advocates such treasonous policies as giving more money to developing countries rebuilding from a natural disaster, sound social security reform that will ensure future retirees won’t be left without money to pay for rent and astronomically high prescription drug costs, and an attorney general who respects the rule of law. Hmmm, maybe O’Reilly is right, it sounds like the work of anti-American pinko commies to me.

But I’m not trying to persuade you. I’ll let the facts speak for themselves.
