They really say this stuff

Because the only access to the beach is by boat, I feel we're safe here - safe from a culture that's gone stark raving mad. Or are we? Is there any place in America where families are truly safe? Where children can grow up in innocence? Where moms and dads can know that it is their influence over their children's lives that will shape their values, choices, and futures? There was a time in America when parents raised their children with high morals, when adults instinctively created a protected space in childhood, free from exposure to "adult" issues. I fear that America is all but gone. Even here, on this beautiful, isolated island, the culture creeps. It creeps insidiously with the goal of invading the hearts and minds of our children and our families. (Rebecca Hagelin, "Stark raving mad," Town Hall, 4/15/05)

It seems as if the ladies are tired of dating, mating and watching these candy asses and, once again, are looking for a man whose masculinity is not in question. Believe it or not, the girls are now lining up for men who .

. Are rough and ready vs. rouged and giddy,
. Are rugged and callused vs. reflexive and coifed,
. Are selfless and protective vs. fashionable and feckless, and
. Are into beer, sports and gadgets vs. buns of steel and spandex. The decisively hetero girls are looking for some testosterone junkies who are not eating their gouda gift set but, instead, have mixed this smelly stuff with their stink bait and are using it to catch big catfish on the Chattahoochee.

AARP is clearly out for itself and not the elderly.     It has gotten rich defending the Social Security status quo and is prepared to wage shameless scare campaigns to stop reform. (John Carlisle, "The games AARP plays," Washington Times, 4/14/05)

What I have seen with the teaching methods that have been used since my son was in grammar school, they stink. I can tell you that the teacher's methods have changed to the degree that the children are behind the world standard. What they should do and it would not require any studies are to go back to the way the students were taught 40 years ago. I know how that sounds but this is my reasoning. The children at the time were taught competition, individuality, phonics, penmanship, responsibility and citizenship. (Cynthia A. Janek, "NEA fighting now to teach our children, Renew America, 4/22/05)

This was supposed to be the week that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted on the nomination of Under Secretary of State John Bolton to become our Ambassador to the United Nations. It didn't happen. Instead, Senator George "I'm a maverick, too" Voinovich decided he needed to learn more about Mr. Bolton, whose long and distinguished career of public service is being savaged by the so-called mainstream media, petty bureaucrats, and liberal Bush-bashers.
